The compelling images, symbols, and languages of the Wheel of Time will be coming to life on the printed page this month. Patterns of the Wheel: Coloring Art Based on Robert Jordan’s The Wheel of Time, illustrated by Amy Romanczuk (a licensed Wheel of Time artist), is being released on October 25 by Tor Books. Amy previously published a smaller version of this coloring book, which was well-received at JordanCon this year. The Tor edition has a total of 40 hand-drawn images, twice the number of the earlier book.
Amy is a folk artist known for her work with Ukrainian pysanky, a type of egg art that employs a wax-and-dye resist process. This art form uses complex geometric patterns to form symbols that have specific meanings. She transferred this ancient 3D art into a 2D format to bring images from the Wheel of Time to adults, children, and Trollocs with eating disorders who cannot get enough of the series and coloring books.
The drawings are reproduced on substantial paper stock, suitable for framing. You can read more about Patterns and the type of art used to make the book at the Tor website: http://www.tor.com/2016/06/10/pysanky-wheel-of-time-patterns-of-the-wheel/
